August 8 - 12

Who's this For?
Adults interested in climbing, who have a solid understanding of fundamental climbing/belaying skills, regardless of physical ability level. Participants will learn the skills to climb trad multi-pitch routes, whether you have prior knowledge of trad gear or not. This week is great for climbers who already have experience climbing and want to add adventure and complexity to their climbing. There's no grade requirement, but participants should be comfortable moving on rock and able to lead belay.
Schedule
Day 1 - Trad climbing skills. It's time to leave the bolts behind and learn about traditional climbing gear. You'll practice placements, learn to evaluate their quality, and develop the problem solving skills to lead trad climbs . Placing gear, especially on lead, requires practice so after ground school, you'll put it together with mock leads on rock, building the confidence and movement skills to trad climb on your own.
Day 2 - Advanced Anchors. Building traditional anchors has endless opportunity for variation, but requires a solid set of base skills and understanding to know safe techniques to use. You'll learn the critical skills to build your own efficient & strong anchors on any route; everything from the fundamental knots and hitches to creative alpine techniques.
Day 3 - Multi-pitch techniques. We'll focus on the systems, methods, and gear needed to ascent routes regardless of the size. You'll learn how to belay from the top of a climb, how to attach yourself to anchors, strategies for success on big routes, and of course the skills to rappel back down.
Day 4 - Rock rescue. You've already learned most of the knots, hitches, systems for climbing multi-pitch trad routes, but now it's time to add in the final component: skills to use when things go wrong. We all want to stay safe in the mountains, and with this you'll be equipped with the knowledge you need to help rescue yourself or your partner so you can both escape to safety; from escaping the belay to haul systems and much more!
Day 5 - Graduation climb! Our final day will be spent taking on a bigger multi-pitch climb to put the skills to use where it counts.
Want to take your skills higher? Climb remote mountains or even El Capitan? This Trad Progression course is designed to take climbers and give them the skills to succeed on anything from single pitch trad routes to big alpine adventures. With a strong focus on placing gear, building anchors, strong systems, and rescue skills, this course prepares you to to approach climbs with a mentor or guide.
Although every day has a focus, each one builds on the previous ones so there will be extra time to continue practicing and hone the skills needed. There will be lots of climbing each day and lessons to learn for everyone. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
There is no guarantee you'll be able to do live lead climbs, that decision is based on the safety and skill assessment.
